Big Y is Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month 2023
National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated between September 15th - October 15th
It is an important time to celebrate the history, culture, and the contributions of the Hispanic community. Did you know? These communities represent over 21 countries (ranging from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America) with rich food and family traditions. The different challenges we endure every day. I love to cook especially pizza.

Pollo Guisado con arroz y frijoles (Rice and beans with stew chicken).
What would you describe as your ethnic heritage?
Puerto Rican. 2nd generation in the United States.

Family & celebration.

It means home. It’s the closest to feeling back in Puerto Rico. It is what brings us together.

I have been working for Big Y 24 years.
What would you describe as your ethnic heritage?
Keeping the Spanish cultural alive in my kids is very important to me showing them all that different things that Spanish culture has to offer. It is the language and traditions that I have grown up with. The way that makes our food and music we listen to. Our family gatherings that we do once a week are very important to me and the family to always keep in touch.
“In my 24 years at Big Y, I have been able to train new people to the company. Which is one of the roles I enjoy the most. I now work as an Assistant Store Manager at Big Y Express Fresh Market Tower Square, where I do everything from ordering, stocking, cleaning, etc. My days are never the same and there is always something that needs to get done.”
