Crack Open the Taste of Summer
For many years, wine coolers, spritzers and malt beverages like Zima®, have been on the fringe of cocktail culture. As of late, boozy bubbly water has leaped off the sidelines and become a certified craze. Nearly all the big beverage brands have a seltzer product, and the ubiquity of brands like TrulyTM and White Claw® may have you asking yourself, why is hard seltzer such a thing these days?
At its essence, it's just alcoholic carbonated water with minimal sugar. Generally, the alcohol isn't added; it comes from fermented cane sugar.
The more health-conscious tipplers like it compared to beer and ready-to-drink cocktails for their lower carb and calorie counts. It's easy-drinking (it goes down sneakily smooth), portable (perfect for the boat, campsite or outdoor gathering) and it's downright refreshing—making it the perfect summer sipper. Although they’re pretty good on their own, alcoholic seltzers fold in perfectly to some classic cocktails.
Here are a few fun summery recipes to try.
