Luckily, there is NEW vaccine to protect you from pneumococcal pneumonia, called Prevnar20™. All of our Big Y Pharmacy locations offer Prevnar20™.
Just one dose of Prevnar20™ protects you from 20 strains of bacteria that cause pneumococcal pneumonia.
What is Pneumococcal Pneumonia?
Pneumococcal pneumonia is a potentially serious bacterial lung disease that can strike without warning and cause your lungs to fill with mucus, making it hard to breathe. Pneumococcal Pneumonia can be prevented.
Who is at risk for Pneumococcal Pneumonia?
ANYONE is at risk for Pneumococcal Pneumonia. However, your risk may be increased if you are over the age of 65 or have certain chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, heart, lung or kidney disease.
Who should get Prevnar20™?
- Any adult over the age of 65
- Any adult with medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma, heart, lung or kidney disease
- Any adult with an immunocompromising condition
- Any adult who is a cigarette smoker
Where can I get Prevnar20™?
All of our Big Y Pharmacy locations carry Prevnar20™. Walk-ins are welcome, and you can even stop by the pharmacy during your weekly shopping trip. Or, click HERE and schedule your vaccine ahead online.
Is Prevnar20™ covered by my insurance?
Yes, Prevnar20™ is covered completely by most insurances, including Medicare.
If I already had a Pneumonia vaccine should I still get Prevnar20™?
If you have previously received another Pneumonia vaccine, you may still need a dose of Prevnar20™. Talk to our Big Y Pharmacy Team to see if you are up to date!
