A hearty bread filled with tender, sweet raisins.

Recipe by:



1. Wash hands with soap and water.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Stir in sugar and raisins. Wash hands after handling raw flour.

4. Add buttermilk and mix until it reaches a doughy consistency.

5. On a floured surface, knead dough for 5 minutes. Form into a round loaf and, using a floured knife, cut a deep cross on top of dough to keep bread from bursting during the baking process. Place on a baking sheet. Wash hands after handling raw flour.

6. Bake bread until golden brown and cooked through, about 40 minutes. Remove from oven and cool before slicing.
