  1. Wash hands with soap and water.

  2. Rinse fresh produce.

  3. Soften your butter to the point where you can easily spread it.

  4. Using the back of a spoon or an angled frosting spreader, smear butter around a 12x7 wooden board to form soft peaks and little valleys. Be sure to leave about 3 inches around the edge of the board. Top with cracked pepper.

  5. Top with smoked salmon, red onion, capers and dill. Garnish with lemon slices.

  6. Serve with a variety of cut-up bagels, herbed focaccia and cucumber slices.
