March is Brain Health Month!

According to the National Institutes of Health, brain health refers to the ability to remember, learn, plan, concentrate and maintain a clear, active mind. While loss of cognitive function has always been written off as a normal part of aging, it doesn’t have to be. Research is showing that similar to heart health, the foods we eat and lifestyle behaviors we choose can have a major impact on maintaining brain health through our lifespan.

So how can you keep your brain in tip-top shape? Practice healthy habits like getting enough sleep each night, being physically active, eating nutritious foods and engaging your mind – whether by staying social with friends or learning a new skill.

When it comes to nutrition, certain foods are considered brain healthy foods, such as leafy greens, nuts, beans, berries, whole grains and olive oil. For inspiration, try a salad made with dark leafy greens, walnuts, oil-based dressing and Decas Farms™ Paradise Meadow® LeanCrans® 50% Less Sugar Dried Cranberries. With 15 grams less sugar and 12 grams more fiber per serving than their traditional Dried Cranberries, these powerhouse berries are a win-win for flavor and nutrition.
