Lipton Chicken Soup Recall

November 23, 2019

Information

Unilever United States is recalling a limited quantity of Lipton products that contain chicken from a supplier, which issued a recall on its poultry for potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.  This limited recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.). *(Recall Number: 094-2019)

The recalled products include certain dried chicken soup mixes with specific best by dates. No other Lipton products are affected.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected. Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, listeriosis can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating potentially contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the food.

To date, no illnesses have been reported related to this recall. Unilever is recalling the products out of an abundance of caution.

The products were manufactured in the United States and Canada. The products were distributed nationwide in the U.S. and reached consumers through retail stores and professional kitchens.

If you have any of the products listed below, they should be thrown away or returned to your local Big Y for a full refund.
