Over 6,000 Pairs of Socks Donated to Homeless

SPRINGFIELD, MA - (November 12, 2019)

6,513 pairs of new socks will be donated to the homeless in local communities thanks to Big Y’s third annual “Sock-tember” sock collection which ran from September 12th through October 2nd , where customers were encouraged to donate new socks for the homeless, and where Big Y donated a pair of socks for every flu shot given at one of their pharmacies. Socks were also available for purchase in these stores so customers could add to the donations.

According to Charles L. D’Amour, president and chief executive officer, “As part of our mission, all of us at Big Y are proud to help those less fortunate in our towns. Whether it be daily donations to local food banks and soup kitchens or our annual sock drive for the homeless, we support our local community. Since its inception, Big Y has donated close to 15,000 socks to the homeless.

Socks will be distributed to 35 agencies and shelters over the next few weeks.
