Big Y Foods, Inc. is one of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England. Big Y operates 84 locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut including 71 supermarkets, Fresh Acres Market, Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors and 10 Big Y Express gas and convenience locations with almost 12,000 employees. Founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D'Amour, the store was named after an intersection in Chicopee, Massachusetts where two roads converge to form a "Y".

Clinton Grand Opening

SPRINGFIELD, MA [Novemeber 2, 2021] – 

On Thursday, November 4, Big Y will be celebrating the official opening of their 72nd supermarket at 23 Killingworth Turnpike in Clinton. Big Y will kick off a month of celebrations, virtual store tours, giveaways, special sales, exciting discounts and a myriad of contests. Construction began in December of 2020 for the 54,313 square foot market.

According to Big Y president and CEO, Charles L. D’Amour, “All of us at Big Y are excited to show the Clinton community our world class shopping experience. I’m very proud of our teams who have been working diligently for months to prepare this market for opening. We know that our customers will appreciate our selection of fresh and local foods, our outstanding employee service and the value and variety that our new store has to offer.”

Some highlights of this market include signature offerings in every department from hand tossed pizzas, rotisserie chickens and panini sandwiches to cooked to order fish & chips, steamed Maine lobsters, freshly made sushi, and expertly cut Angus Prime and Choice beef and air-chilled chicken, to specialty cheeses, freshly sliced to order deli meats, hand decorated cakes, made from scratch snowflake rolls, hand crafted floral arrangements and natural, organic, gluten free products. Big Y’s extensive produce department of over 500 different items supports as many local farmers as possible throughout the growing season including Cecarellis Harrison Hill Farm from neighboring Northford, CT. Other local finds as part of the over 2000 local products include favorites like Liuzzi Cheese from Hamden, Arethusa Farms cheeses from Bantam, Zuppardis Pizza from West Haven, Chabaso Breads from New Haven, Gina Maria’s Italian Cookies and Lyman Orchards pies from Middlefield.

In addition to exceptional service, customers will appreciate the added convenience and safety of self-checkouts and myExpress Checkout, Big Y’s new scan and go service where customers can scan their own items for an even faster shopping trip.

Store Director, Bob Rainville has over 28 years of experience as a store director in 3 different Big Y locations. He began his career in 1988 as a grocery manager and in 1992 he was selected for the store manager training program. Rainville and his team have hired 72 new employees and worked diligently to train them to provide the best shopping experience ever. There are still more openings for those wishing to join the team. The store will be open daily from 7AM until 9PM.

A company strongly committed to giving back to their local community, Big Y has donated food valued at over $11 million last year to local non-profit organizations, schools, churches and educational programs. This effort continues this year with an additional 2.5 million meals to 4 local food banks during this past year of unprecedented need. As part of their opening celebration, Big Y will be donating $1000 in Big Y gift cards to Connecticut Food Share food bank in order to provide further assistance in the region.
