Big Y Partners with Red Cross Relief Campaign in Response to Hurricane Helene

SPRINGFIELD, MA (October 4, 2024) – Big Y is partnering with the American Red Cross to raise donations for those affected by Hurricane Helene. Now through Friday, October 18th, Big Y customers and employees will have the opportunity to donate to American Red Cross Disaster Relief at all Big Y supermarket locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Donation containers for cash donations will be available at all Big Y registers. Customers can also make a donation using a credit or debit card, via the myExpress Checkout app and online at https://bit.ly/BigYHurricaneHelene. The funds raised will support people in the communities affected by Hurricane Helene.

“The devastating effects of Hurricane Helene are still causing great suffering in several states, including North Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Deadly flooding and the destruction from high winds have caused widespread power outages that have isolated entire communities,” said Holly Grant, Regional Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts who is currently on the ground in Georgia. “The Red Cross has supported sheltering in the impacted areas and has mobilized thousands of disaster workers, response vehicles and supplies like water, ready-to-eat meals, cots, blankets, cleaning supplies and comfort kits to help displaced residents.”

According to Big Y President and CEO Michael P. D’Amour, “Over the years, Big Y, our customers and employees have had a strong tradition of supporting those in need with the American Red Cross. We appreciate everyone for their generosity and ongoing support in helping those families affected by the hurricane."

Big Y’s 14-plus-year partnership with the American Red Cross has raised over $1.7 million to support domestic and international disasters.
