Big Y Hosts Grand Reopening Following Remodel of Springfield, MA Location

SPRINGFIELD, MA (October 29, 2024) – Big Y Foods, Inc. is pleased to announce the grand reopening of their supermarket at 1090 St. James Ave, Springfield, MA on Thursday, October 31st. The project included major renovations in many areas of the store and various new additions in response to changing customer preferences. After months of planning and construction, the remodeled store now features upgraded décor, flooring and finishes throughout the building. The exterior facade was also given a more modern look. Additionally, a modified Customer Service Center opened up space to include café seating for customers to enjoy their favorite foods and beverages.

The new design features several exciting updates and expansions that are meaningful to the community including:

Expanded Fresh Foods Variety: A new service butcher shop with freshly cut meat offerings along with their famous Fish & Chips. The talented employees are ready to fulfill customer’s every day and entertaining needs.

Updated Deli/Kitchen Offerings: Hand tossed pizza by the slice, stromboli’s or call ahead to order large and party pizzas. The department was re-located providing both lunch and dinner needs together along with Big Y Quick, Easy Meals. They now have the convenience of DoorDash and Instacart to provide an even more flexible shopping experience.

Center Store: An expanded Hispanic Grocery section featuring traditional ingredients and pantry staples from across Latin America including Brazil and the Caribbean.

Sustainability Initiatives: New high efficiency LED lighting, refrigerated cases and equipment were installed throughout the store.

The improvements are already resonating with customers and the St. James store team. “This remodel’s focus was to improve the overall shopping experience, while delivering the quality and variety our customers have come to expect,” said Michael Matyszewski, store director at the St. James location. “With the enhanced look and feel to every aspect of the store, employees have great pride in being able to share this new family market with our community here in Springfield.”

As the company continues to remodel various locations, the emphasis is curating the ideal experience tailored to meet customer’s needs and provide an enjoyable workplace for the store teams.

According to Rick Bossie, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Big Y, “As we continue to grow, it is important for us to keep up with the ever-changing grocery industry. We not only want to offer the best quality products and services to our customers, but also give our employees the tools and training they need to be successful. When they succeed, we all win. This new store format and design will allow us to do that.”

The renovation efforts began in April 2024 and just finished last week.
