MIDDLETOWN, CT (July 22, 2024) – Daniel Mancini, Customer Services Sales Manager at the newly built Middletown, CT location started his journey in 2001. “I started over 20 years ago as a part-timer pushing carriages. I was young, still in college at the time and was trying to figure out what I wanted to do,” he said. Daniel never thought a part-time job he worked in college would become his full-time career. “I bumped into some amazing mentors who taught me what this company was all about: a great way to provide for their family that also gives time to be with them and a great company to work for. I've worked hard, was given some opportunities to train and learn and I eventually went full-time,” said Daniel. “Now I’ve worked my way up to be a department manager.”

Tasha Starkey is a self-proclaimed Big Y cheerleader. Her journey started in 2015 when a friend and Big Y employee convinced her to apply. The rest was history. “I was looking for a new career and my friend told me about the open position. I started as a full-timer in the kitchen. From there I was promoted to assistant kitchen manager for seven and a half years. For the last year and a half, I have been working as night manager at the newest addition to the Big Y family in Brookfield, CT.

Both Daniel and Tasha agree that the work/life balance and attention to their staff is why they’re both still at Big Y. “I feel that Big Y is the best company because they work with their employees to get them where they want to be. We’re happy, because they go above and beyond for their employees and it shows,” said Tasha. “Big Y not only provides support like tuition assistance, scholarship opportunities and training, they also give you the flexibility to have a personal life,” said Daniel.

Big Y offers flexible shifts and many scheduling options. Employee benefits include competitive wages, paid holidays, paid time off, tuition assistance, scholarships, a 401(k) plan and a work/life care program.

In addition to the benefits and family-friendly atmosphere, the attention to training and development of their staff has allowed Daniel and Tasha to grow and further their careers at the company. “You can move mountains with Big Y. There is just so much opportunity, it doesn’t matter where you start, you’re going to be in a totally different place when you retire,” said Tasha.

Big Y offers continuous in-house training and outside educational opportunities, matched with incentives to keep their customer service top-notch. “We have the growth and opportunity of a big company, but we have the togetherness and caring of a small company,” said Daniel.

Tasha is taking full advantage of the training and hopes to continue to work her way up at the company. “My goal is to become a store director,” said Tasha. “With so many great mentors and training tools helping me along the way, I know I can do it,” she added.
