Big Y to Collect Donations to Help Red Cross Disaster Relief
SPRINGFIELD, MA (September 10, 2019)
Big Y World Class Markets are partnering with the American Red Cross to raise donations for those affected by Hurricane Dorian domestically and abroad.
Starting Wednesday, September 11th and continuing through Sunday, September 22nd. Big Y customers and employees will have the opportunity to donate to American Red Cross disaster relief at all Big Y World Class Markets throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. Donation containers will be available at all Big Y registers.
“The effects of Hurricane Dorian are being felt in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinaswhere floods, spin-off tornadoes, and power outages are impacting whole communities,” said Holly Grant, CEO of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts. “The Red Crosshas mobilized 2,500 disaster workers (20 from Massachusetts), 110 response vehicles and more than 100 tractor trailers filled with water, ready-to-eat meals, cots, blankets, kitchen items, cleaning supplies and comfort kits, insect repellant, gloves, masks, shovels, rakes, coolers and more. We are sheltering and protecting tens of thousands. We are so grateful for the ongoing and generous support of Big Y and its employees and customers. Big Y truly helps the Red Cross deliver its disaster relief mission. Thanks to all.”
Big Y, its customers and employees have a strong tradition of supporting those in need through the American Red Cross. Past relief campaigns include the 2004 Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and the earthquakes in both Japan and Haiti, Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. Last year at about this time, Big Y drives made a positive impact on the Red Cross responses to Hurricane Florence, and those impacted by the Merrimack Valley Fires & Explosions. The 10-plus-year partnership has raised over $1.5 million to support international and domestic disasters.
