Headquartered in Springfield, MA, Big Y is one of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England. Proud to be family owned and operated, we operate almost 80 stores throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts with over 11,000 employees. Big Y has been named a 2015 Employer of Choice by the Employers Association of the Northeast. Founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D'Amour, the store was named after an intersection in Chicopee, Massachusetts where two roads converge to form a "Y".

Big Y Gives Over $209,000 to Local Breast Cancer

SPRINGFIELD, MA (January 22, 2018)

In order to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, all Big Y Supermarkets donated proceeds from their October initiative “Partners of Hope” to 31 local breast cancer support groups throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. This month long program reflects the partnership, commitment and support of breast cancer awareness and research that are so vital for many. In October, Big Y raised over $ 209,000 which was donated to the following organizations:

According to Big Y CEO, Donald Amour, “Big Y is committed to promoting breast cancer awareness to our community. Over the past ten years, we've made tremendous progress thanks to our customers, vendors, and employees. In addition, these funds benefit local programs throughout our region. It is truly a collaborative effort.” Since 2007, the chain has raised close to $2 million for this cause.

Big Y's October initiatives included donating a portion of the proceeds from both Floral and Produce purchases as well as packages of Big Y®, Top Care®, Full CircleTM, World Classics Trading Company®, and PAWS Happy LifeTM pet products, @Ease, Simply Done and Tippy Toes by Top Care. The Big Y Butcher Shop donated from every pound of All Natural Angus Beef® and Big Y Smart Chicken®, and Big Y Pharmacy & Wellness Center's also donated $5. for every flu shot given. Big Y's pink reusable, earth-friendly shopping bag highlighting this Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign were also available and every store promoted Partners of Hope pink ribbons for $1 as a way of generating additional proceeds for local breast cancer organizations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.
