Headquartered in Springfield, MA, Big Y is one of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England. Proud to be family owned and operated, we operate almost 80 stores throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts with over 11,000 employees. Big Y has been named a 2015 Employer of Choice by the Employers Association of the Northeast. Founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D'Amour, the store was named after an intersection in Chicopee, Massachusetts where two roads converge to form a "Y".

Kingston and Norwell Big Y Stores Are Reborn

SPRINGFIELD, MA (November 1, 2017)

Big Y Foods, Inc. is pleased to announce the completion of the renovations at their Kingston, MA store at 182 Summer Street as well as at their Norwell, MA store at 10 Washington Street. Renovation efforts totaled over $5.4 million. Construction began in Kingston in July and cost $3.6 million, while construction in Norwell began in August and cost $1.8 million. These upgrade efforts included major renovations in many areas of each store and various new additions in response to changing customer needs.

Official cake cutting ceremonies to celebrate the Grand Re-openings are planned for Thursday, November 2nd at 10:00 AM in Norwell and 1:00 PM in Kingston.

Both stores now include brand new Big Y Pizza Shops. Big Y pizza is made with fresh, store-made dough, vine ripened tomatoes, whole milk mozzarella and fresh toppings. The upgraded sales floor in Kingston also features a new sandwich station that offers fresh, made to order grinders. Norwell shoppers will find a brand new seafood department with a fish fry operation, a new bakery department with a donut frying operation, and a brand new café for customers to relax in. New décor and fixtures were installed in many departments and additional cosmetic upgrades can be found throughout the stores.

Another new feature in both stores is self-scan registers to speed up the checkout process for customers.

The stores in Kingston and Norwell are both open from 7 AM to 9 PM on Sunday and 7 AM to 10 PM on Monday through Saturday. Both stores have pharmacies; the pharmacy hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Sunday.

The store director in Kingston is Stephen Beane. The store currently has 152 employees. They have added 17 since June and are looking to hire 5 more. The store director in Norwell is Arthur Dechellis. The store currently has 134 employees and is looking to hire 5 more. All interested applicants should apply at www.bigy.com.

Big Y in Kingston originally opened on September 10, 2016 after Big Y acquired the store from Hannaford along with 7 others, including Norwell. The actual sales floor is 40,923 square feet and has 18 total grocery/refrigerated aisles. Big Y in Norwell originally opened on September 16, 2016. The actual sales floor is 32,402 square feet and has 17 total grocery/refrigerated aisles.

November 2nd Grand Reopening events are being planned for both stores with complimentary samples of Big Y's celebration cake, coffee, donuts and other refreshments along with store-wide product samples. Official cake cutting ceremonies are planned for 10:00 AM in Norwell and 1:00 PM in Kingston. Local and state officials are expected to participate. The celebration will continue throughout the next week with free samples of sushi, hot soups, super chicken tenders, World Classics turkey, Berkshire Breads, new cheeses, chicken salad and more.
