Helping Pets at Big Y
SPRINGFIELD, MA (May 2, 2018)
Big Y World Class Markets announce the beginning of the company's fourth annual “May is Pet Month” donation drive. The first three years of this program collectively resulted in donations of more than 150,000 pounds of pet food and supplies to more than 50 different local animal shelters. The program, which will run in all 70 Big Y stores from April 26th through May 30th, encourages shoppers to purchase food and other supplies for a local shelter as part of the company's ongoing effort to give back to the community. Each Big Y chooses a local pet shelter for their donations. Returning to the program this year will be $1 donation cards at each register where the money collected will go to the Humane Society of Connecticut, Kenway's Cause, the Humane Society of Massachusetts, and the MSPCA of Massachusetts.
Pet Month is always a big hit with customers as well as store employees. Many employees have enjoyed decorating their store's donation bins with pictures of their family pets. In addition to pet food, customers also donated other needed pet items such as collars, leashes, cat litter, and pet toys.
Big Y is partnering with iHeart Media and Pure Harmony pet food to promote Pet Month along with The Hometown Foundation to raise much-needed funds to support Pet Rescue and Animal Welfare causes throughout the month of May in honor of National Pet Month.
Last year's, donations resulted in 50,000 pounds of pet food and supplies for more than 50 local shelters. Big Y also promoted their Pet Month initiative on their Facebook page by announcing total donations to Thomas J O'Connor Animal Control and Connecticut Humane Society, Dakin Humane Society, Berkshire Humane Society, Worcester Animal Rescue League, Pet Pals Northeast, DAWS: Danbury Animal Welfare Society, and Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter.
