Proud to be family owned and operated, we operate almost 80 stores throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts with over 11,000 employees. Big Y has been named a 2015 Employer of Choice by the Employers Association of the Northeast. Founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D'Amour, the store was named after an intersection in Chicopee, Massachusetts where two roads converge to form a "Y".

Guilford Big Y Is Reborn
SPRINGFIELD, MA (July 25, 2019)
Big Y Foods, Inc. is pleased to announce the completion of the renovations at their Guilford, CT World Class Market at 830 Boston Post Road. This renovation effort began in April and included major renovations in many areas of the 54,574 square foot store and various new additions in response to changing customer needs.
Big Y is continuing its focus on supporting their local community with great partners like Ridge Runner Soap from Harwinton, CT; Angela’s Kitchen pasta sauce out of Cheshire, CT; Candlewood Roasting Company coffee from Brookfield, CT; and Southern Airs jams, sauces, dressings, and more out of Fairfield, CT.
The new Starbucks coffee section includes expanded offerings of premium, K-cups, cold brew and espresso cups. Also new is bulk tea, as well as a new “Spice Shop” which includes expanded offerings from The Nutmeg Spice Company of Terryville, CT. The produce department is increasing offerings in both local and organic items. Beer lovers will be delighted to see all new refrigerated and non-refrigerated beer cases with a large assortment of beer and craft beer, including a new 6 foot “Mix a Six” cold beer section where shoppers can customize their own six-pack.
The meat department has expanded with a new butcher shop, expanded natural products like grass fed beef, lamb and veal and other fine meats, organic Smart chicken and has a large selection of restaurant quality USDA choice and Prime beef. Additionally around the store are expanded fresh quick and easy meal solutions to help ease dinner preparation.
New décor and fixtures in many departments showcase even more products than ever before.
Store Director, John Damjanovich, will continue to manage this store. Damjanovich has been with Big Y since 1991 where he started in dairy, and became an Assistant Store Director in 1994. He was promoted to Store Director in 1996 and assigned to the Guilford location in 2013.
The store’s most recent remodel was in 2006. The store is open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day.
A July 26 Meet the Managers event is planned with complimentary refreshments along with store-wide product samples.
