Ansonia Big Y to Relocate to Derby
SPRINGFIELD, MA (July 22, 2019)
Big Y World Class Market is coming soon to Derby, CT. Big Y has officially announced that they will be moving their store at 403 Main St. in Ansonia to this location about 3 miles away. Construction is currently underway at this new state-of-the art market to be opened this fall. No official transition date has been determined. This new market will allow for added features in response to changing consumer tastes with expanded ready to eat meals, more specialty products including organic and gluten free options, a wider array of locally sourced fruits and vegetables along with hundreds of local products throughout every department in the store.
There will be no job loss as all current Ansonia employees will be offered an opportunity to transition to another position at a nearby Big Y where there are several current openings in addition to the new store. Those not interested in transferring to another location will be offered a completion bonus along with Big Y’s employee assistance program. In anticipation of staffing this new location, Big Y plans to open a hiring site as the Derby store will need about an additional 140 employees in order to serve their customers. More specific hiring site information will be available in September.
