LOCAL PRODUCE IS HERE

SPRINGFIELD, MA - (June 12, 2009) - Big Y Foods, Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of this year's local produce season within the chain's 57 markets. With stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut the markets are able to contract with local growers throughout the region. This week current local vegetables hail from:

Snow Peas, Snap Peas, English Peas - Baggott Farms in East Windsor, CT.

Native strawberries are supplied by: Nourse Farm - South Deerfield, MA, Pell Farms - Somers, CT, and Meadowbrook Farms - East Longmeadow, MA.

Local zucchini, summer squash, and green beans are right around the corner

Big Y is committed to providing as many native fruits and vegetables as possible throughout the local growing season.
