FDA Approved Health Claims
Health claims characterize the relationship between a nutrient/food and a disease/health-related condition. Health claims are permitted on labels and in labeling only if the claims have been pre-approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Low-fat diets rich in fruits and vegetables (foods that are low in fat and may contain dietary fiber and vitamins A and C) may reduce the risks of some types of cancer.
Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol and rich in fruits and vegetables that contain certain types of dietary fiber may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
Reduce risk of hypertension by decreasing sodium
Healthful diets with adequate folate may reduce a woman's risk of having a child with brain or spinal cord birth defects.
