Spring Showers

It’s May, and time for spring showers. No, not the kind that fall from the sky. These showers are a happy anticipation of joyous events — a baby on the way or a wedding about to take place. If you’re hosting a bridal or baby shower, you’re thinking carefully about every little detail. You want the day to be just right for the guest of honor and all her family and friends. With help from Big Y, it’ll be nothing but blue skies and sunshine for the best bridal or baby shower ever.

Creating a Party Theme
When putting together a shower, you can have a little bit of fun by giving your party a theme and asking guests to participate. Be creative and personalize the event. There are no rules to making this type of party unique. Here are a few simple ideas to get you started:
• Use interesting colors to decorate a baby shower. If the mom-to-be loves green and purple, forget pink and blue and decorate the room in her favorite shades.
• Make the shower personal. Does the guest of honor like oldies music? Then create an Elvis or flower child motif.
• Instead of just having a shower for the bride, throw a couples’ shower. Find a hobby that the bride and groom are both interested in and use it as your theme.

Beginnings

Big Y can help you create the perfect shower menu.
One of the decisions you will have to make in planning a baby or bridal shower is what food you are going to serve to your guests. Since most showers are held in the early afternoon, a light luncheon menu is a great way to go. From the elegance of a fresh, made-to-order shrimp platter to the simplicity of specialty finger sandwiches, your shower will be the talk of the neighborhood when you offer a sampling of these delicious appetizers from Big Y. Sweet and spicy, ready-to-eat chicken drumsticks that we call “Honey Stung Drummies” are a unique addition to the menu. And don’t forget to include some fresh, crispy vegetables! The ready-to-serve vegetable platter and World Class salads are a perfect complement to the other selections on your menu. And, of course, no party is complete without a decadent dessert like our
Fruit Basket Cake, as much a feast for the eyes as for the tummy! Big Y has you covered from appetizers to desserts — let us do the work for you so you can enjoy your shower guests.

After the Ceremony, a Feast for Family and Friends
A special day deserves a special meal. After such a touching ceremony, you want to bring your family and friends home to a real banquet. But you won’t have to spend days preparing this feast. Your loving touch will shine through in your own main entrée and in the way you choose the other offerings. As with any formal dining experience, you’ll begin with appetizers — we suggest a medley from Big Y that provides a variety including seafood, bruschetta and cheese. Our stuffed colossal shrimp bursts with flavor in each bite. The second serving in this opening course, the bruschetta, is a spicy and crunchy combo of panetini crusty breads topped with sharp provolone, pepperoni and tomatoes, drenched in oil, garlic and spices. Then you’ll offer your guests a wide selection of cheeses along with juicy red and green seedless grapes and an assortment of crackers from the World Class Imported Cheeseboard. The main entrée offers a selection of your homemade spoon roast smothered in gravy, onions and green beans or a slow-roasted, delicately seasoned rotisserie chicken. Don’t be surprised if most guests choose to try both!
You can finish the meal off in style with a sweet, delicious cheesecake and a strawberry European layer cake from the Big Y Patisserie.
