There is a ton of fun stuff to do on the playground and it’s a great
way to burn off energy, but it’s also important to stay safe. You
may have seen kids get hurt on the playground before, maybe it
has even happened to you, and that can feel kind of scary. But follow a
few simple tips below, and you will still have fun while avoiding accidents
and injuries.
Play Near a Grown Up.
Grown ups are there to keep an eye out for danger you might not
see yourself. And if you do get hurt, they are there to help
you and make sure you get the attention you need. Even when you’re
not at school, make sure you have an adult with youwhenever
you go to the playground.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings.
Look for playgrounds that put down special surfacing material,
such as wood chips, sand or rubber matting to help soften a fall.
Be sure to pay attention while you are playing. If you’re swinging,
watch out for people who might be getting too close. If you’re
walking around the playground, don’t get too close to the swings
and watch for other kids crossing monkey bars or coming down a slide
so you don’t get knocked down
and possibly hurt.
Play Smart.
Sometimes you’ll see kids going headfirst down the
slide or some kids might start goofing around while playing up
high, or try to race for a free swing. If you see this happening,
avoid those kids and try to get a grown-up involved. Following the rules
of the playground and using the equipment properly is the best way to
avoid any injuries.
Be Kind to Others.
It’s super important to use your manners even on the playground.
Take turns using the equipment and never push anyone, unless they
are on the swings! It’s fun to play
with your friends by chasing one another, but only if they want
to participate. If your friend asks you to stop, it’s important
to listen to them.
