Through its Affiliates, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® addresses the unmet breast health needs in local communities in order to close the gaps in health care. Both the Connecticut and Massachusetts Affiliates invest 75 percent of net proceeds in local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. Breaking the Silence
The expansion of the “Breaking the Silence” program includes a team of professional health educators and breast cancer survivors who represent low-income communities and provide education and early-detection screenings for women who might not otherwise receive these services. Circle of Care: Commitment to Improving Breast Health in Women

Pink Rose Project
This program promotes education and provides breast cancer detection and screening services for women. The program seeks to increase outreach to Hispanic/Latino, elderly and uninsured or underinsured women. Mujeres Unidas por Vida (Women United for Life)

This program works to increase and improve access to mammography services for Latina women in Holyoke, MA. The target population will receive bilingual, culturally appropriate support services from a Promotora, or community health worker, and will identify across Holyoke Health Centers patients over 40 years of age. Referrals for mammogram will also be provided. Others services include reminders about mammogram appointments, accompanying patients to the visits, helping patients obtain and pay for transportation and child care, and assistance obtaining a mammogram voucher for those who are uninsured. Amigas De Pecho/Bosom Buddies

This program will provide comprehensive support services to women, particularly
Hispanic women, with positive mammograms who are in need of assistance in order to seek follow-up treatment. The bilingual/bicultural caseworker will provide information and educate women in the community about breast cancer

Nuestra Salud Nuestras Vidas (Our Health, Our Lives)
This project focuses on providing Latina women in Springfield and Chicopee, MA information, support and referrals to seek breast cancer screening and detection services. The project will be coordinated by the Gandara Center, whose mission is to promote the well-being of Hispanics, African-Americans and other culturally diverse populations through innovative, culturally competent health promotion programs.
