(NAPSI)-A few tips from the experts can help back-to-school clothes make the grade for weeks and months after the school year starts.
Parents may benefit from doing some homework on how to get out stains.
Here are some fabric care tips from the Whirlpool Institute of Fabric Science to keep kids' clothes at the head of the class:
Before removing any stain, consult the care label for the manufacturer's recommendations. With any brightly colored items, check an invisible corner to ensure that the treatment you choose will not affect color.
- Rub some ice on the gummy spot to freeze the gum.
- Second, use a dull knife or a spoon to get rid of the hardened substance.
- Soak the stained area in a mixture of detergent and water before washing in the warmest water possible for your garment.
- Finally, air dry and check the garment carefully for any residue before you run it through the dryer-the heat can set in missed stains.
- Brush any excess dirt or mud off using an old toothbrush.
- Rinse in cold water.
- Wash separately using recommended detergent amounts in the warmest water possible for the fabric. Use a cold water rinse to minimize wrinkling.
- If the stain does not come out, pretreat the stain (without rubbing) and allow it to sit. Repeat the washing procedure.
- Soak the stained area in a mixture of detergent and water before washing in the warmest water possible for your garment. The sooner you pre-treat and launder the grass-stained clothes, the better your results will be. Use of a color-safe bleach (non- chlorine) will help with the cleaning as well.
- If a stain isn't removed in washing, don't dry it-which will set the stain. Instead, try soaking the stain in detergent and water and launder again.
