In 1960, a 31,000 square foot Big Y ® opened in
Northampton, the largest supermarket in Western Massachusetts. Within a year, Big Y was on its way to being the #1 grocery chain in the region.
In 1963, Big Y purchased a second location in Northampton, and opened Big Y Wines & Liquors, selling beer, wine and liquor.
