Big Y St. James, Springfield and South Hadley locations’ Annual Community Service Day was a huge success. Volunteers from South Hadley partnered with St. James for an event at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke. The staff, along with the Veterans, were very appreciative of Big Y employees’ help. With the latest budget cuts, the Soldiers Home had to cut costs in certain areas and one was landscaping. Volunteers did landscaping and weed pulling and more, to freshen up the the grounds. Throughout the day the veterans thanked us and our employees thanked them for their service. A few Big Y volunteers had the opportunity to sit and eat lunch with 92 year old Joe, a veteran from World War II. It was a very productive and rewarding day which reinforces Big Y’s Firm Foundations and Vision Statement.
