July is Sun Safety Month!
Infants under 6 months of age have skin that is sensitive to the chemicals in sunscreen that block the sun's rays. So how can you protect your precious new family member from too much sun exposure without using sunscreen? Follow these tips from The Skin Cancer Foundation:
- If possible, keep your baby out of direct sunlight at all times
- Place mesh window shields or UV (ultraviolet) film on car windows to keep direct sunlight from shining on your baby
- When taking your baby out for a stroll, try to plan it before 10am or after 4pm and use a shade on the stroller
- Choose lightweight clothing and a wide-brimmed hat for your baby to keep him or her shaded from harmful sunrays
We can all have fun in the sun this summer without becoming sunburned. Stay safe and healthy!
