Sniffles, Coughs and Pregnancy
It can be pretty uncomfortable to be expecting a baby and have a bad cold at the same time. Fortunately, there are many ways to alleviate your symptoms without resorting to over-the-counter cold and cough drug formulations.
- If your head is stuffy, breathe in mist from a humidifier or steam from a vaporizer or shower to help loosen congestion in the nasal passages and lungs. Use nasal strips, such as Breathe Right®, especially at night to help ease stuffiness.
- If you are on-the-go bring a bottle of saline for your nose, such as TopCare® Saline Nasal Spray. It contains a mild drug-free saline solution that can be administered as a mist, spray, or stream depending on the angle the bottle is held.
- If your throat is sore, try soothing it with hard candy, a salt water gargle or hot tea.
- And of course, it is just as important to eat properly and get plenty of rest while your body fights the infection.
Sometimes these measures are not enough and you would like to use an over-the-counter remedy. After checking with your doctor, consult your friendly Big Y Pharmacist for a recommendation on a cough and cold product with the lowest amount of medicine needed to improve your symptoms.
