Big Y Raises More Than $230,000 for Local Breast Cancer

In order to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, all Big Y Supermarkets donated proceeds from their October initiative “Partners of Hope” to 24 local breast cancer support groups throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. This month long program reflects the partnership, commitment and support of breast cancer awareness and research that are so vital for many. In October, Big Y raised $222,386 which was donated to the following organizations:

According to Big Y CEO, Donald D’Amour, “Big Y is committed to promoting breast cancer awareness to our community. Over the past ten years, we’ve made tremendous progress thanks to our customers, vendors, and employees. In addition, these funds benefit local programs throughout our region. It is truly a collaborative effort.” Since 2007, the chain has raised $1,789,885 for this cause.

During the entire month of October, Big Y donated a portion of the proceeds from both the Floral and Produce Departments. Additionally, for every package of Big Y®, Top Care®, Full CircleTM, World Classics Trading Company®, and PAWS Happy LifeTM pet products, @Ease, Simply Done and Tippy Toes by Top Care Big Y donated five cents between October 6 and October 12. The Big Y Butcher Shop donated ten cents from every pound of All Natural Angus Beef® and Big Y Smart Chicken® to breast cancer research during the entire month of October. Big Y Pharmacy & Wellness Center also donated $5.00 for every flu shot given. Big Y’s pink reusable, earth-friendly shopping bag highlighting the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign were also available and every store promoted Partners of Hope pink ribbons for $1 from October 1st through October 31st as a way of generating additional proceeds for local breast cancer organizations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.
